Reflection Week 4


EPC2901 – Teaching Practice 2b 


Sunday 8, November 2015, this was the last week in UM Ghafa Kindergarten. In this day, I prepared to teach the children in “KG 1” lesson in mathematics and it was about the “long and short”.

The kids were excellent in the morning circle because they are accustomed to the routine and they have a good memory to remember what they taken last week. As a kind of change I tried to start routine with them then I give them a great idea to let them understand the lesson in a fun way such as, put to them things of daily use and two baskets and I ask them to classification of these things between long and short, this worked very well with the kids because it was for them a kind of entertainment.

This idea helped me a lot in getting the purpose of the lesson to children, I also used a lot of strategies that helps me in the classroom management. Kids love this lesson because it was fun for them and they interacted with me during activity, even at the end of the lesson during the reflection they were excited to show me their work when they were in the learning centers. There wasn’t any kind of problems during the lesson, I was almost in control of the children with strategies.
I hope in the future that I improve my thoughts to attract children's attention and looking for new ideas about positive reactions and trying to stay away from punishment.

Reflection Week 3




EPC2901 – Teaching Practice 2b 


Monday 2, November 2015, this was the third week in UM Ghafa Kindergarten. In this day, I teach the children in “KG 1” literacy lesson and it was about the letter “N”.
In the circle morning, all children were listening and very were interested in figuring out what in the box. (I bring box with many objects about letter (N) and a variety of other objects) but then the kids started playing, talking and moving. 
The problem worsened when some of the children came next to me and paly with the box, some of the children were sitting quietly and they keep listening to the teacher and the others continued to moving and talking. 

This had a negative impact on children because they will not be able to understand the lesson. I tried to solve this problem in a fun way with the kids by letting them say hello to their new friend Mr. Michael (Mr. Michael is a hand puppet) and I told them to let‘s make Mr. Michael happy then I asked him how we could make Mr. Michael happy here the children started to think about the question.
In addition I have used them positive reactions to encourage them to listen to me, by told them if you sat nicely and listen to the teacher Mr. Michael will give you a lovely sticker. I've seen this work very excellent with the kids because they're in a short time have returned to tranquility. 

This had a positive effect also for me because I was able to learn a new strategy to teach children and I think I will use this strategy in the next lesson, but from the beginning of the lesson so as not to take your time to avoid wasting time.


Reflection Week 2


 EPC2901 – Teaching Practice 2b 



Tuesday 27, October 2015, this was week two in UM Ghafa Kindergarten. In this day, I prepared to teach the lesson for the children in “KG 1” and it was about the transportations. I chose this topic because it was linked to their unit.

 At the beginning of the lesson, everything’s was good in the morning circle, but I had a child from special education need so I have to offer a special explanation that gives to him the ability to understand the lesson. 
The problem began when I sent the children to the learning centers and I let the child that from special education need share with them the activity, but they didn’t accept him because they cannot communicate with him or understand what he says. 

I was trying to integrate him with the children to be able to deal with them and gain skills in learning but when the children refused him it made me feel the problem are worsening so I started to search for a quick solution to this problem.
I encouraged the children to be more helpful with others, and I talked with them about what the good about making friendships in the classroom. This was the best solution to this problem and its works well.

I think that not just this child is the only one is face this problem, but this problem occurs naturally with children in the classroom even if it was a normal child. In the next time, I will try to follow strategies to address the problem.

Reflection Week 1


 EPC2901 – Teaching Practice 2b

 Wednesday 21, Oct 2015, this was a first week in UM Ghafa Kindergarten. In this day, my MST (Ms.Manda) was absent so I stayed with the kids in the classroom with the Arab teacher, I got to know the kids.

One of the children named “Salem” he suffers from attention behavior, he want all the teacher and people around him to pay attention only to him. When he sees that the teacher takes care of children he asked her to leave them. Also during the morning circle when the teacher begins to speak he come to the middle or the sitting next to the teacher.

In this day, I sat with the kids in the morning circle and I read to them a story and everything was okay, but when I sent the kids to the centers, Salem was trying to keep me sit next to him but I had to help the children in the centers. The Arabic teacher told me to try to ignore him and I did that, he anger and cry to attract my attention, and I keep ignore him.
He stop crying and he takes off his trousers to attracts my attention, the quick reaction from me the and from the Arab teacher  that we ran towards him to raise his trousers and I don’t  let the rest of the kids see it. He was very happy because it attracts our attention, but the teacher preventing him from playing outside with children during play time and she let him sitting next to her. 

She told him that will be your punishment every day if you continue to do that. Next time I'll try that I improved my dealings with the kids in a positive way.

One of the children is hit me many times.
Describe
I was in the Mohmmad bin Khalifa School; it was very calm day at the beginning, I was with the kids in the morning assembly and everything was fine, than in the period 6, the teacher took the kids to see the ambulance it was a safety presentation. After that when we came back to the classroom on of the boys does not want to go back to classroom. When I ask him to enter to the class he started to say bad word to me I try to ignore him. I back to the classroom to write a report about his behavior to the social worker, then when I wanted to go to give the report to the social worker he try to take the paper out of my hand but when he can’t take the paper he started to hit and batch me then he tore the paper. I tell the social work what exactly happened, the principal of the school Ms. Amal give him the last warning and she called his mother.
Analyze
I think that not just this child is the only one is has a behavior problem in the school, but almost children are have a same problem and the biggest reason for this is comes from the administration of the school because they care about the students affairs so much.
Appraise
This experience was bad for me, but I learned a lot which makes me able to solving problems with students in all cases, because the behavior problem have a negative impact on students.
Transform
In the next time I will try to follow strategies to address problem.

Last reflection (Science lesson)

Wednesday, November 19, 2014 is my fourteenth day in the Mohmmad bin Khalifa School; in this day my teacher was back to the school, she was sick for three days. I prepared to explain lesson for the children in Science, the lesson was about (water cycle).

 In the period 3 at 9:00 am, I give a lesson to Grade 4 (C) with 27 student; I just have one student absent in that day. I began my lesson by reminding the boys about classroom rules as I did before, to gain their attention and kept them quietly.

At the beginning of the lesson, I showed the children a video about water cycle. After the video finished, I explained to them by using drawings on the board.

First activity, I let them draw a water cycle on their own in the white Paper, to see if they remember what I explained or not and they did a good job with very beautiful drawings. I work in the classroom and I let the children do this activity individually.

The last activity, I let them discuss in the group about the water cycle and I choose one of each group to tell me in English how things happen in the water cycle. Moreover, the one who says correctly I give him a prize. I work in the classroom and I let the children do this activity as group.
I spoke in English throughout the lesson, even when the kids did not understand some part of the lesson I repeat it again by using simpler words in English.

I also give the same lesson with same topic to the grade (4D) with 26 student in the period 6  at 11:35 pm, and i just have one student absent because he had an accident. That was a good and a great experience for me.

I used the same strategies that I used before in my lessons with the boys.I took it from my MST Ms. Sandra.
The first strategies, I write the word (PLAY) in the whiteboard and when the boys do their best work quaintly, I circle one letter until I circle the letter (Y) than I let them to play outside with ball for five minutes. This is to encourage them to do their best.


In addition, I used with them the Red and yellow dots as warning, the yellow dot is first warning and the red one is the second warning. This strategy to be able to control the calm in the classroom and the children and to warn the student if he did annoyed and makes the others keep quiet to don’t get a warning as well.

Math Lesson


Wednesday, November 12, 2014, this is my ninth day in the Mohmmad bin Khalifa School, and it was a good day and better then yesterday. In the period 1 at 7:30am, I touch Math lesson to Grade 4 (C) with 26 student and in this day, I just have one student absent in that day. 

I tested the children's ability to calculation and this was in 20 minutes.

 The children do their best work because they in still in the morning. 
I just have a problem with three boys they don’t want to do their work, they only have their name on the paper. I try to help them but I don’t get good result. 

The rest of the students did a good job and they did what I asked them to do, even though some of their answers were wrong, but they at least they tried.
I give them also another activity; it was a worksheet with many questions about the addition to improve their level of calculation. This activity took just 10 minutes.

In the end of the lesson, I give them game called “cootie catcher” they enjoyed it very much I ask them to color the paper with wonderful colors and they made an excellent way. This day was the most beautiful day I have it from two weeks, because I did not have a problem at all.

 I used with them the Red and yellow dots as warning, the yellow dot is first warning and the red one is the second warning as strategy to be able to control the calm in the classroom.
