Last reflection (Science lesson)

Wednesday, November 19, 2014 is my fourteenth day in the Mohmmad bin Khalifa School; in this day my teacher was back to the school, she was sick for three days. I prepared to explain lesson for the children in Science, the lesson was about (water cycle).

 In the period 3 at 9:00 am, I give a lesson to Grade 4 (C) with 27 student; I just have one student absent in that day. I began my lesson by reminding the boys about classroom rules as I did before, to gain their attention and kept them quietly.

At the beginning of the lesson, I showed the children a video about water cycle. After the video finished, I explained to them by using drawings on the board.

First activity, I let them draw a water cycle on their own in the white Paper, to see if they remember what I explained or not and they did a good job with very beautiful drawings. I work in the classroom and I let the children do this activity individually.

The last activity, I let them discuss in the group about the water cycle and I choose one of each group to tell me in English how things happen in the water cycle. Moreover, the one who says correctly I give him a prize. I work in the classroom and I let the children do this activity as group.
I spoke in English throughout the lesson, even when the kids did not understand some part of the lesson I repeat it again by using simpler words in English.

I also give the same lesson with same topic to the grade (4D) with 26 student in the period 6  at 11:35 pm, and i just have one student absent because he had an accident. That was a good and a great experience for me.

I used the same strategies that I used before in my lessons with the boys.I took it from my MST Ms. Sandra.
The first strategies, I write the word (PLAY) in the whiteboard and when the boys do their best work quaintly, I circle one letter until I circle the letter (Y) than I let them to play outside with ball for five minutes. This is to encourage them to do their best.


In addition, I used with them the Red and yellow dots as warning, the yellow dot is first warning and the red one is the second warning. This strategy to be able to control the calm in the classroom and the children and to warn the student if he did annoyed and makes the others keep quiet to don’t get a warning as well.

Math Lesson


Wednesday, November 12, 2014, this is my ninth day in the Mohmmad bin Khalifa School, and it was a good day and better then yesterday. In the period 1 at 7:30am, I touch Math lesson to Grade 4 (C) with 26 student and in this day, I just have one student absent in that day. 

I tested the children's ability to calculation and this was in 20 minutes.

 The children do their best work because they in still in the morning. 
I just have a problem with three boys they don’t want to do their work, they only have their name on the paper. I try to help them but I don’t get good result. 

The rest of the students did a good job and they did what I asked them to do, even though some of their answers were wrong, but they at least they tried.
I give them also another activity; it was a worksheet with many questions about the addition to improve their level of calculation. This activity took just 10 minutes.

In the end of the lesson, I give them game called “cootie catcher” they enjoyed it very much I ask them to color the paper with wonderful colors and they made an excellent way. This day was the most beautiful day I have it from two weeks, because I did not have a problem at all.

Reflection:

Thursday, November13, 2014, this is my tenth day in the Mohmmad bin Khalifa School. In this day, I prepared to explain the lesson for the children in English, the lesson was about (People who help us in the community), and I choose this topic to get them know those people who help us in our community. Also to let children think what they want to be in the future.

In the period 5, at 10:50 am, I touch English lesson to Grade 4 (D) with 27 student and in this day, I have just two student absent and other two in the social worker because there are have behavior problem. Ms. Aneela Bukhari attended in this lesson to observation me. 

In this day, I was a little tense and confused because this is my first experience for me to teach specially teaching boys, I think it's a job that needs patience.

I began my lesson by reminding the boys about classroom rules; I read it loudly and I asked them to repeat after me, just to make sure that they would use them. Then I started offering PowerPoint with first question about (what I want to be when I grow up?). After that the boys answered the question, I ask them the second question about (who help us in the community?) .It was part of my plan to let boys think about the people who help us in our community and to Identify their goals in the future.

 Then I show the children many picture about our helper and I let them guessing who is and what his job in the community. After I make sure, they understood the pictures for our helper, I started with them the first activity. it was about small book I created for them which is three papers, the caver page, (what I want to be …) and the other two are empty, one I ask the children to draw the picture of what they want be in future and the last one to write the word of the job. This activity almost took between 8 to 10 minutes and I let the children do this activity individual.

The second and last activity I have done in this lesson it was a worksheet with picture for same helper in the one side and the name for the helper job in the other side, and I asked the children to matching the word with the right picture. This activity was took just 3 min because I want to see if the children remember the lesson or not. I work in the classroom and I let the children do their activity individual.

I used some of the strategies that could make teaching easier especially with boys; I took it from my MST Ms. Sandra. I also used tables to put points in which table the child sits quiet as one of the strategies, which helps to organize the lesson time.

The last some strategies I used with the boys, that if it begins to nuisance and I want to get their attention I closing the lamps and I open again and really work with them well.

Reflection week 1

In this week when I start, my first day in Sunday, November 2, 2014 is my first visit to the Mohmmad bin Khalifa School; it was a difficult in the beginning to dealing with students in the primary school, I was also afraid of dealing with boys especially.
I meet my mentor teacher Ms. Sandra, she was very great teacher, she told me everything happens in her with kids and the best way I can follow to deal with them.
Everything was new for me; I find that really hard, I was in grade (4), children in the class ignore me I don’t know what I should be do to make children comfortable with me. Day by day during teacher giving the children activities, I was able to make them feel accepted for me.
I had a lot of hard time and faced a lot of trouble thing with children, difficult day, hard day, and the other crazy. A full week and every day I return to my home, I be really exhausting,
sometime I crying and I thing that the teaching profession is not for me and sometime I say to myself, I would not come back to the school again, but in the end I  still believe that the start with the most difficult things that makes all of the things coming in the future easy.

I faced a very difficult problem, in the Wednesday, November 5, 2014, there were two boys fighting and I came to the stopped them, what happened is one of the boys start to hit me. I really surprised, the teacher ask him to get out of the class. The problem did not end on that day because the boy who hit me, his name (Mohammed) he go to his mother and grandmother and he said to them I hit him and I caught him his clothes and I pushed him toward the wall. His mother and grandmother came to see me; I told them what happened exactly. They believe me and Mohammed’s mother requested him to apologize to me.

I am happy with the result, but I’m also sad in the same time, because I felt justly when I explained everything to the Mohammed’s family and my teacher stood by my side but I really  sad when I feel that child hates me. Thursday, November 6, 2014, the only thing is that I wished is to go back home and finish this week.

I am still optimistic and I want to keep going to get good experience.
